Play-Based Learning
Learning through play is an essential part of Armstrong Preschool’s curriculum, providing children with the opportunity to explore, discover, and develop essential skills.
Experienced Teachers
Experienced and dedicated teachers foster positive relationships with children and families, creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
Safe Environment
Secure entry systems, qualified supervision, and regular cleaning/sanitization to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
Our Philosophy
At Armstrong Preschool, we believe in the value and uniqueness of each child and family we serve. Our
center experience is designed to promote each child’s individual social, emotional, physical, and
cognitive development as a whole. As caregivers and educators, our mission is to provide a safe and
developmentally appropriate learning environment, which fosters a child’s natural instinct to explore,
discover, create, and become a lifelong learner.
Armstrong Preschool provides an environment that is a
warm, safe, and nurturing place where your child will be encouraged to build, splash, dash, pretend,
and create their way to exciting discoveries about the world around them. Our emergent and play based programing is inclusive. We welcome all children, and honour diverse abilities and learning
styles/needs.
We encourage families to share in their children’s preschool experience and rely on their
support and knowledge in the day-to-day running of the preschool.
What Parents Say
“Hey Teachers. Thank you for being so patient and caring towards all our kids despite the many new challenges for you all these last couple of years. M loves coming to school and speaks so fondly of you and her classmates. It is the first time she has been cared for by anyone outside of family, and it just gives me great peace that she has a safe place to go, be out in the world, and have a little independence.
That’s all, just wanted to say I think you are great.“
Megan – parent of a 2023 graduate
“I am so happy and thankful you are (my child’s) teachers. I love knowing that I can send him to school in the purple pants he picked out and his favourite pink nail polish and he is welcome and cared for. I hope you all know this community needs educators like you now more than ever.”
Ali – parent of a 2024 graduate
“Our 2 years here were so wonderful. He learned so much and made so many priceless memories! Thank you, awesome teachers and everyone else that make it such a great preschool.“
Tammy – parent of a 2023 graduate
“My daughter had a great time at preschool; a great place to get ready for her to be around other kids and kindergarten next year.“
Kathleen – parent of a graduate
Your Participation is Vital
Armstrong Preschool operates as a non-profit parent participation organization. It lessens costs by “spreading the workload” and sets a good example for the children and community.
Here’s how you can contribute:
Share Basket and Fun Food Fridays – Children are encouraged to bring snacks to share with their friends. This can be a piece of fruit, bananas, tortilla chips, cheese, or a box of crackers. Use your imagination! Whatever you bring will be shared by all. The children love this! It fosters a sense of community and giving that is vital to their development.
Parent Helper Days – Parent duties are posted in the kitchen; please read. Please alert a teacher if a child needs help toileting/changing or resolving a conflict. Parent helpers must be present for the duration of the class, and younger siblings/children cannot attend.
Fundraising – See the website and bulletin board for one-of and ongoing events.
Maintenance Tasks – This is ongoing and may consist of taking home laundry/toys to wash or doing something extra around the school. Tasks will be posted by the sign-in book, emailed, or on Facebook.
Get Involved & Stay Informed
Monthly Newsletters – The newsletter is a valuable source of information and communication. We share what we’ve been up to and what the plans are for the new month. It contains vital information regarding fundraisers, field trips and exciting theme days! It is emailed and posted at the school at the beginning of each month.
Board Meetings – All parents/guardians are considered members of our society and have a say in how our school is run. Meetings are every second month for general members. Here we discuss new ideas, fundraising, and make decisions that make a difference to the community. Our wonderful volunteers of the Executive Board ensure our school continues to be a rich part of Armstrong. If you are interested in being a member of the Executive, please contact our board in person or by email!
Field Trips – We have several throughout the year! Some such as the Pumpkin Patch and our farm visit are out of walking distance and require an adult. Others are within walking distance such as the public library and Memorial Park. Information will be posted on the calendar and by the attendance sheet with lots of warning.
Annual General Meeting – A member from each family is requested to attend the Annual General Meeting in May. This is when the next year’s board will be elected. If you are interested in running, please let an executive member know.
Open house – Our open house/Meet the Teachers event is a week or two before classes start. Come view the school and have a chance to meet our staff! Please note: post-dated cheques/payment plans are due at this time.
Online – Each class has a private Google Album where we share the day to day exploration of your children. They may be creating art, building towers, or engaging in social interactions. Our school also has a Facebook page administrated by our Communications volunteer board member.
We acknowledge that our preschool is located on the traditional territory of the Secwépemc and Sylix Okanagan peoples, past and present, and we are grateful to offer play-based learning for all children within the territory. We honour with gratitude the land itself and the Secwépemc and Sylix Peoples. For more information, click here.
